Arsenal take on Atletico Madrid on Tuesday as they continue their Champions League campaign.

The Gunners beat Fulham 1-0 in a narrow victory at Craven Cottage over the weekend, and meant that Mikel Arteta’s side reclaimed their place at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City had temporarily usurped them.

The north Londoners did not suffer any casualties in west London, which will come as welcome news for Arteta, who is having to deal with a number of absentees at present.

Some of them are key players, including the club captain...

Martin Odegaard

Odegaard’s season has been blighted by injury, with a shoulder injury his first problem in the early exchanges of the campaign.

He made his return against West Ham, only to suffer a medical collateral ligament problem, which has sidelined him for “weeks”, according to Arteta.

The skipper withdrew from Norway’s squad over the recent international break to focus on his recovery, which could take longer than a month.

While no timeframe has been offered for his return, it is expected that Odegaard will be out until after the November international break, missing seven games in the process.

Potential return date: November 23, 2025 vs Tottenham (H)

Piero Hincapie

Hincapie has made just one appearance for the Gunners since he joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen on Deadline Day.

The Ecuadorian has really struggled with a persistent groin injury, forcing him to miss Arsenal’s last five games.

He didn’t play for his country during the international break either.

There was some positive news from Arteta ahead of the Fulham game, saying that the defender had resumed team training, and that he could be available for the weekend.

However, that was not the case, with Hincapie not making the matchday squad.

Potential return date: October 21, 2025 vs Atletico Madrid (H)

Noni Madueke

Madueke has also been unfortunate with injury since his summer arrival from Chelsea.

The winger suffered a knee injury against Manchester City, and Arteta believes that the England international will be out for a number of weeks yet.

“It looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks,” the Gunners manager told reporters. “We don’t really know yet. Probably we are going to have to scan him next week again.

“He felt something at the beginning of the match. He tried to carry on and at half-time it was too sore, so let’s see.”

Potential return date: November 2025

Kai Havertz

Havertz has not played since the opening day victory over Manchester United after he required surgery on his knee.

Arteta hasn’t been particularly forthcoming with a timeframe for his return to action, but it could potentially be ahead of the November international break, should his recovery trail go to plan.

Potential return date: November 2025

Gabriel Jesus

Brazilian international Jesus last played for the Gunners in January’s FA Cup third round loss to Manchester United.

The striker tore his ACL against the Red Devils, and has been sidelined for the entirety of this season so far.

It appears that his recovery is going well, but Arteta insisted that he would need to be cautious about reintroducing him to match action.

Arteta said: “Gabi is doing super well. I think he looks in a really good place. Obviously, it’s a massive injury, and we need to come from that in a really strong way, but certainly he’s in the right place and making very strong strides.”
