Arsenal were dealt a welcome sight as Martin Odegaard returned from injury to spur the Gunners to a late 2-1 comeback victory over Newcastle at the weekend.

Their Norwegian playmaker recovered from a shoulder problem in time to make the bench for their trip to St James’ Park, where Mikel Arteta’s side ended a hoodoo that had last over two years.

Now, with Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, returning to action within the past fortnight, the north Londoners have been bolstered as they continue to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

That said, they still have absentees, short-term and long-term.

As such, here is the latest Arsenal injury news and return dates...

Noni Madueke

Madueke suffered a knee injury he suffered against Manchester City, and it was reported that the former Chelsea winger would be out for two weeks.

The England international was curiously withdrawn at half-time, despite being one of Arsenal’s most potent threats.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, Arteta revealed that Madueke suffered an injury and was unable to continue in the second half.

The Spaniard said after the game: "He had an issue very early in the match and he wasn't well enough to continue."

Scans showed Madueke has not suffered a avoided an anterior cruciate ligament but the injury to the £48.5million signing represents a major blow for Arsenal.

Piero Hincapie

The summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen missed out on the matchday squads for both the visit of City and the trip to Newcastle, having featured off the bench against Athletic Club in the Champions League.

Arteta was asked why the Ecuadorian had not been involved against City, to which he replied: “Odegaard wasn’t fit enough to be [on the bench], Piero as well, he’s out of the squad.”

The cause of Hincapie’s absence remains to be seen.

Kai Havertz

The German is said to be “walking freely” after knee surgery, with the versatile forward “looking really good”, according to his manager.

“He's starting to load the knee and started to do some bits,” Arteta said.

“As I said before, I think we’re taking it from weeks to months. But knowing Kai, I cannot give you any timescale because I know what he's going to try to do.

“So I think he's in a good moment. It was a very tough decision for him to go and have that procedure done. But I think it was necessary and it was the right decision from the medical team to persuade him to do that.”

Gabriel Jesus

The striker will not be available for selection for some time as he continues his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

He has been able to step up his training with the ball, but remains a long way off returning to full team sessions.

The Brazilian was omitted from Arsenal’s Champions League squad, with Arteta confirming that the former Man City forward would likely be out until December or January.

Arteta said earlier this month: “[Jesus] had major surgery that was going to take him many, many months.

“So, after discussing that with the medical staff and understanding the schedule that we had and when we thought that he could be available, that it would be between December and January, we decided to make that call, like we've done in the past with other players.

“Hopefully, we did it wrong and he comes back earlier. But at the moment, the provision was very clear.”

Potential return date: December/January
