Arsenal match will reveal PSG’s true potential in Europe, says Nicolas Anelka | OneFootball

Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium could reveal a lot about the reigning French champions’ chances in that competition.

That’s according to their former striker Nicolas Anelka, a man who knows a great deal about both clubs. Anelka began his senior career at PSG before Arséne Wenger brought him to Arsenal in February 1996 for a £500,000 transfer fee.

He helped the Gunners win the Premier League title in the 1997-98 campaign before eventually returning to Les Parisiens for two seasons in the early 2000s.

Speaking to Le Parisien, Anelka says this upcoming encounter will give us a good idea of how good Les Parisiens really are.

“This is the biggest test that PSG will take to find out what it takes and what they can expect in Europe. It is not Ligue 1 that can say how good PSG are,” said the former France international.

Anelka adds that he’s been impressed by the overall effort of Luis Enrique’s side so far this season. “PSG play as a team, and everyone is making the effort. I am not saying that this was not the case last year, but I feel a greater collective strength.“

Meanwhile, the former President of Ümraniyespor in Turkey says he will be supporting PSG on Tuesday because that’s the club where he came through the ranks.

In PSG and Arsenal, Anelka says that he sees two teams that want to play beautiful football.

Les Parisiens have lost their last three away matches in the Champions League versus English opposition and have never beaten the Gunners in European competition.
