Martin Zubimendi struggles in unfamiliar role, handing Mikel Arteta an easy decision for the Champions League final
Arsenal wrapped up their Premier League title-winning campaign in style with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
In the Selhurst Park sunshine, Gabriel Jesus finished well before half-time and Noni Madueke volleyed in to double the lead just after the break.
Mikel Merino and Eberechi Eze had chances to extend that advantage further but nothing could dampen the mood of the Arsenal fans in the away end, not even a late header from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
This was a 90-minute party before they watched their side lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time in 22 years.
Matt Verri was at Selhurst Park to rate the Arsenal players...
Kepa Arrizabalaga 7
First Premier League minutes of the season. Brilliant reaction save to keep out Munoz’s header when it was still 0-0. Otherwise had nothing to do until picking the ball out of his net after Mateta’s header.
Martin Zubimendi 4
His turn to fill in at right-back and struggled. Loose on the ball and too rash in jumping into challenges, and then really poor to allow Pino so much time to cross for Mateta’s goal. Clear message to Arteta he can’t start there next weekend.
Cristhian Mosquera 7
Massive presence at the back, making six headed clearances. Looked untroubled throughout in a much-changed Arsenal defence and another reminder of what a bargain he was.
Piero Hincapie 7
Rare outing at centre-back in the first 45 minutes. Looked more at home after the break when at left-back, getting forward and forcing Henderson into a smart stop. Relentless energy as always.
Riccardo Calafiori 6
Fairly quiet by his usual final-third roaming standards. Caught out at the back post when Munoz got in front of him for big chance. Replaced at half-time - unclear if that was tactical or injury-related.
Christian Norgaard 6
A first Premier League start for Arsenal at long last. Solid enough in possession and got his foot in well, making more tackles than anyone on the pitch in the first-half. Spoke to physio on his way off at half-time and did not return.
Myles Lewis-Skelly 7
Confident in possession, keeping Arsenal ticking over with 93% pass accuracy. His superpower of drawing fouls was on display again, winning four free-kicks. Mature display in the second-half when playing as the holding midfielder.
Noni Madueke 8
Looked really sharp. Great cross for Jesus deserved to be an assist but he got his moment when firing in a well-controlled volley. Joined in with the supporters’ chants after that goal. Concern that he limped off late on.

Max Dowman 6
Got some physical treatment in the opening stages. Went down far too easily looking for a penalty and was off the pace. But his lovely flick into Martinelli led to the opening goal and he produced some eye-catching moments.
Perfect pass in behind created Jesus’ goal having been unfortunate the striker didn’t square for him just before. Electric run put big chance on a plate for Havertz in second-half.
Gabriel Jesus 7
Frustrating early on when missing three big chances. One hit the post, the other two were wasted. Goal did eventually come, drilling in low finish at the near post. Did well to get booked in a match refereed like a pre-season fixture.
Substitutes:
Kai Havertz (Norgaard 46’) 7
Immediate impact when nodding a corner into Madueke’s path to finish. Went close with a deflected effort of his own.
Gabriel (Calafiori 46’) 6
Used his body superbly to stop Guessand getting on the end of ball in behind. Absolutely furious when Arsenal switched off defensively late on.
Mikel Merino (Dowman 61’) 6
Back on the pitch after almost four months out. Should have marked it with a goal but turned over the bar from close range.
Eberechi Eze (Jesus 75’) 5
Big ovation for him on his return to Selhurst Park. Wasted a massive chance with almost the final kick, shooting straight at Henderson when completely free from close range.
