Surprise reports have revealed the Gunners were offered the chance to sign another Chelsea player this summer. Arsenal have already done business multiple times with their London rivals in this window. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke were both snapped up for a combined transfer fee of nearly £60 million as the Gunners continued their much-maligned yearly transfer business with the Blues.
Until the signing of Viktor Gyökeres, the Gunners spent the entirety of the summer window searching for a quality number nine. The search took them far and wide throughout the continent, but reports have revealed they were offered the chance to sign a player closer to home.
According to an exclusive report by Caughtoffside, Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Nicolas Jackson by Chelsea. Along with a host of clubs, the Gunners were given the opportunity to snap up the Senegalese international, an offer they duly refused.
They focused their attention on the pursuit of Benjamin Šeško and Viktor Gyökeres instead, eventually snapping up the latter in a €73.5 million deal. After initially placing an £80 million valuation on Jackson, Chelsea are reportedly willing to accept a more realistic fee of £60 million, with Newcastle and Aston Villa currently interested in the forward.
Supporters will be glad the club landed an elite striker in Viktor Gyökeres after much anticipation. After setting a new club record for shirt sales, the Swede will look to hit the ground running when the new season comes along. He has already featured in two pre-season friendlies, making a short appearance against Tottenham and playing around 60 minutes against Villarreal. He is likely to feature again when the Gunners face Athletic Club on Saturday, with all eyes then on the season opener on 17th August when Arsenal face Man United at Old Trafford.
Coming back to the Nicolas Jackson offer, thoughts Gooners?
