Now that this summer, a new attacker might need to be considered before deadline day on September 1, which is less than two weeks away now.

But other clubs are likely going to be interested in the same targets that remain available on the market and so the competition is now fiercer than ever to make the squad is ready for the season.

Arsenal now also need a forward

On Tuesday it was reported that Leandro Trossard at Arsenal was to be given a pay-rise for the remaining two years of his contract, in a move suspected to be a ploy to keep him in North London.

Since he's 30 years old, it was unlikely that the Belgian was going to be offered a chance to extend his stay at the Gunners - he was initially considered a sellable asset, although that view has changed.

Mikel Arteta's hopes of signing a new left-winger had presumably taken a back-seat now that Trossard is definitely staying. No one has really approached Real Madrid for Rodrygo quite yet, which has been a little bizarre.

Going into a season with Gabriel Martineli and Trossard will be quite an underwhelming reality for Arsenal fans to try and get their head around, but just one day later, there's been a huge twist.

The Athletic revealed on Wednesday morning that Kai Havertz has a knee injury, which might mean he's torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), leading to him miss all of the upcoming campaign.

While the details are yet to be released, it feels wrong to speculate, but David Ornstein's report specifically claimed 'Arsenal are, however, actively exploring the transfer market to potentially reinforce their attack and cover the absence of Havertz', which suggest it's a long-term lay-off.

If the German is sidelined, then Arteta will have new signing Viktor Gyokeres, injury-prone Gabriel Jesus and midfielder Mikel Merino to utilise as the club's striker options - an uninspiring selection.

This is where Liverpool come in. Earlier in the summer, Liverpool were named by CaughtOffside as a potential destination for Eberechi Eze. He was also linked with a host of other clubs too at the time.

A fee in the region of £60m was said to be the asking price for the 27-year-old England star, who has proved he can be a really useful asset to have in anyone's team, playing on the left-wing, right-wing or even in midfield.

The Reds are in dire need of attacking depth having parted ways with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez this summer while Harvey Elliott is also expected to leave and, of course, there was the tragic loss of Diogo Jota to consider.

However, Arne Slot's side appear to have missed out on a long-term target with Arsenal hijacking Tottenham's proposed move for Eze. It means the Premier League champions need to rethink their end to the transfer window. It's a big couple of days for Richard Hughes and the recruitment team.
