Arsenal attacker Eberechi Eze is set to have a scan on his calf this week, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.
The Gunners forward missed out on the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday as Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
The Emirates Stadium club will hope to have Eze back after the international break but Delaney made a claim in his ‘Inside Football’ bi-weekly newsletter yesterday.
He claimed that while sources close to the Arsenal player insist the knock is just a minor strain, other insiders at the North London club are a touch more concerned, noting that a scan rarely accompanies a one-week lay-off.
Eze initially thought he had escaped an injury against Bayer Leverkusen last week, only to have the discomfort flagged upon his return to training for recovery and initial tests.
He raised concerns that he had suffered an injury, and while he was pictured on the grass in training on Saturday as Arsenal prepared for the next day, it was decided he would not be available for the game.
Eze has since withdrawn from international duty with the Three Lions and will continue his recovery at the Gunners’ training ground.
Arsenal are back in action next month and Arteta will be praying that Eze and other injured players are ready by then.
Gabriel Magalhaes, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba and Leandro Trossard have also pulled out of international duty, while Martin Odegaard is also remaining in England to continue his recovery.
The Gunners take on Southampton at St Mary’s on April 4 in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup before travelling to Portugal to face Sporting CP in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-finals tie.
They could do with Eze and other injured stars for those crucial games as they look to finish 2025-26 with major silverware.
