There was never any doubt that Rodrygo Goes would attract attention from across Europe if put up on Real Madrid’s exit door.

While the player’s position is indeed still unclear, there is little to no doubt that he has a plethora of options should he push to leave.

Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all popped up as potential destinations for the star.

But Arsenal, by far, have been the longest-standing and most consistent interest in Rodrygo. The Gunners, after all, have had their eyes on the Brazilian for a long time now.

A change in situation

As relayed in a recent update by Rodra (h/t The Madrid Zone), negotiations between Rodrygo’s entourage and Arsenal have hit a standstill, especially after the entry of several other European heavyweights into the action.

While Arsenal were willing to shell out a premium sum for the talented winger, the Spanish journalist relays that the player’s salary has now popped up as a hurdle that could potentially be a dealbreaker.

After all, the Gunners are unwilling to pay the high wages Rodrygo’s agents demand for their client. In fact, they have made it very clear that they will not entertain such a sum.

Real Madrid, for their part, remain open to selling the star winger for the right offer but are reportedly seeking €100 million for his move.

The player, meanwhile, remains undecided and hopes to gain clarity over his position through a direct meeting with Alonso after his vacation.

While the 24-year-old has been vital for Real Madrid over the years, his numbers last season were subpar at best. In 30 league appearances, he racked up just six goals and five assists and did not have much prominence in the recent FIFA Club World Cup either.
