Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night as they look to take a step closer to securing Champions League football, as well as continuing their good record against their opponents.

Mikel Arteta will once again be expected to change his team for the visit of the Eagles around given the upcoming semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Oliver Glasner on the other hand may go strong as his side looks to maintain their outside chances of finishing in a European place, albeit with an FA Cup semi-final matchup with Aston Villa just around the corner.

With both being from London, the two sides have been familiar foes over the years but have surprisingly only met each other on 57 occasions, with the Gunners holding the substantial upper hand in the head-to-head.

First meeting between Arsenal and Crystal Palace

Arsenal first faced Crystal Palace, then in the Third Division South, in the third round of the 1933-34 FA Cup, playing host at Highbury Stadium. Former record goalscorer Cliff Bastin found the back of the net twice on the day, playing a big part in the demolition of Palace.

It would then be over 35 years until the two sides would go on to meet again in the 1969-70 First Division.

Last five meetings between Arsenal and Crystal Palace

Arsenal last faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in December, cruising to a 5-1 win on a freezing Saturday night. The Gunners had knocked the Eagles out of the League Cup just days before, with a 3-2 victory at the Emirates.

Most famous meeting between Arsenal and Crystal Palace

Despite their close proximity, Arsenal and Crystal Palace have only faced one another 57 times and that has meant there has not been a huge amount of exciting matchups among them.

The most famous meeting was arguably the game just over 15 months ago, when the Gunners thrashed Palace 5-0 at Emirates Stadium to bounce back from a poor run of form and kickstart a brilliant 2024. The thumping victory kept their title hopes alive and was the catalyst of their so nearly perfect end to the season which saw them go agonisingly close to winning the Premier League.
