Arsenal moved into the Champions League quarter finals with authority, completing a 3-1 aggregate victory over Leverkusen after a composed display in north London. What had remained delicately poised after a 1-1 draw in Germany became increasingly one sided as the return leg unfolded, Arsenal dictating tempo and territory with quiet assurance.
Goals from Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice ensured progression, each moment reflecting a side growing in confidence on the European stage. Sporting now await, though Arsenal will take more than momentum from this performance, they carry clarity in both structure and identity.
The foundation of Arsenal’s win over Leverkusen lay in midfield, where control was established early and rarely loosened. Declan Rice embodied that authority. His goal, arriving shortly after the hour mark, captured his instinct for timing and space.
Operating from a deeper position, Rice ensured Leverkusen struggled to build sustained attacks. Alongside him, Martin Zubimendi showed signs of rhythm returning, knitting passes together and halting transitions before they could develop into danger.
Eberechi Eze provided the defining moment of the tie. His strike before half time carried both precision and intent, a goal that shifted the emotional balance firmly towards Arsenal.
Eze’s influence extended beyond that moment. He drifted between lines, drawing defenders and creating space with subtle movement and technical quality. His performance reflected a player comfortable in responsibility, shaping the flow of the game rather than reacting to it.
On the right, Bukayo Saka remained Arsenal’s most persistent attacking outlet. His direct running and sharp decision making forced Leverkusen into a defensive posture that limited their ability to counter.
Supported by Ben White, Arsenal consistently found space in wide areas. This allowed them to sustain pressure without overcommitting, maintaining balance while probing for openings.
Arsenal’s defensive structure ensured that Leverkusen were rarely able to threaten with conviction. William Saliba led with composure, dominant in aerial duels and measured in possession. Gabriel recovered from early missed chances to deliver a controlled defensive display.
David Raya’s late intervention preserved control, reinforcing a performance built on concentration as much as quality.
