Arsenal face Manchester City in a huge Premier League showdown at the Emirates today.
Last season’s top two go head-to-head in North London, with neither side where they want to be in the table. Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League’s Round of 16 – avoiding a play-off tie – after a 2-1 win at Girona in midweek.
It followed a battling performance to win 1-0 at Wolves in the Premier League last weekend, despite Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial red card.
The Gunners face an examination of their title credentials this afternoon, against the Premier League champions. Despite a tough season, Manchester City remain a real test. The Citizens beat Chelsea last weekend and secured Champions League progress to the play-off round on Wednesday night.
However, Arsenal can take encouragement from their impressive record against the Premier League’s top teams. It has been 648 days since Arsenal last lost to ‘Big Six’ opposition in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta confirmed that David Raya is a doubt for the clash due to a muscular issue. The Spanish goalkeeper did not feature against Girona in midweek and will be assessed ahead of City’s visit to the capital.
Arsenal also remain without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu, while Ben White is not yet ready to return from his knee issue. Myles Lewis-Skelly is available for Arsenal after the full-back’s red card at Wolves was overturned.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Partey, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Havertz, Martinelli.
Arsenal host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday 2nd February 2024. Kick-off at the Emirates is 16:30 GMT.
You can watch the game live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League.
