FC Barcelona have not been in a strong financial position in recent seasons. This has forced them to rely largely on La Masia and the free-agent market to make reinforcements and remain competitive across all competitions.

The only major moves they have made in the past couple of seasons are Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia. The club even chose to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United despite his being available for a negligible fee.

Thus, it came as quite a surprise to see Barcelona linked with a move for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard. According to Fichajes, the Gunners will not entertain any offers for the Norwegian and consider him the fulcrum of their project.

Odegaard has played over 200 games for Arsenal. He made a name for himself at Real Madrid as one of the most promising attacking midfield talents in football, but it took a few years and a loan spell at Real Sociedad for the 26-year-old to showcase his quality.

Eventually, Arsenal have been the beneficiaries, and such has been his impact that he has even received the armband at the London club. However, Barcelona have more than enough attacking midfield options and do not need Odegaard.

That, coupled with his price tag and his Real Madrid history, makes this a signing that Barcelona should not be considering. Odegaard is doing very well at Arsenal, and this is not a transfer that makes sense from any perspective.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Odegaard, but wearing a Blaugrana shirt is unlikely to be part of it, and that is how it should be.
