‘As a coach I was nobody‘ — Luis Enrique makes heartfelt FC Barcelona admission | OneFootball

FC Barcelona were once again unable to make their way to the UEFA Champions League final this season, but the Blaugrana fans would still be quite clear in whom they would be supporting in this final, which is scheduled for 30th May between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

This is the case as the French side PSG is led by two individuals who were previously associated with the Catalan side. On the pitch, their attack would be spearheaded by Ousmane Dembele, the former Barcelona winger, who did not leave on the best of terms with the fans.

However, this is not the case with the Parisian side’s coach, Luis Enrique, who still remains a highly beloved figure among the Blaugrana faithful. The coach himself has never hidden his affection for Barcelona either.

In fact, Mundo Deportivo reports that he recently acknowledged the role of the Catalan club in his coaching career as he appeared in an interview with the outlet La Nueva Espana. When asked about a possible return to Sporting, the Spaniard highlighted how Barcelona gave him the opportunity to coach:

“As a dream, it is something very beautiful. Sporting missed the great opportunity they had by not giving me the chance at the beginning. Now everyone would bet on Luis Enrique the coach — even my father would, of course, that is normal. The opportunity was when I was “nobody”. Well, yes, as a coach, I was nobody. Barça did that for me, they gave me the reserve team.”

Ultimately, Luis Enrique went on to coach the Barcelona first team, and what he achieved with that first team is already a part of one of the most celebrated parts of the Catalan club’s history.
