Manchester City are among a growing list of European suitors monitoring the progress of AS Roma’s Wesley Franca, as per a new report.

The 22-year-old, who arrived in the Italian capital from Flamengo last summer for a fee of €25 million, has enjoyed a sensational debut campaign in Serie A.

His explosive pace and offensive output from the right flank have made him a mainstay under Gian Piero Gasperini, with his performances even earning him the nickname of the ‘new Cafu’ in some quarters.

According to a report by Corriere della Sera, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, AS Roma have now slapped a significant €50 million (£41.8 million) price tag on the defender.

Despite only being at the Stadio Olimpico for a matter of months, the Giallorossi are reportedly demanding double their initial investment to even consider a summer sale.

The report highlights that City’s interest is far from a new development. Etihad Stadium officials have been tracking the Brazilian international since his time in Rio de Janeiro, where he matured into a robust, elite-level prospect before making the leap to European football.

While Manchester City are always scouring the market for dynamic defensive options, particularly those capable of operating on either side of the backline, a move for Wesley would represent a major commitment to one of Italy’s most “strategic assets.”

However, the 22-year-old’s seamless transition to a demanding tactical system like Gasperini’s has only reinforced the belief that he is ready for the highest level.

Despite the growing noise, Roma are under no immediate pressure to sell, with Wesley currently tied to a long-term contract until June 2030.

Nevertheless, with the lure of the Premier League and the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, City may well be tempted to test the Italian side’s resolve if that €50 million valuation proves negotiable.

Whether Etihad Stadium officials view the Brazilian as the immediate successor to Kyle Walker remains to be seen, but Wesley Franca’s name is certainly one to watch as the summer window approaches.

Matheus Nunes has been a capable deputy at right-back this season and despite primarily being a midfielder, the Portugal international has exceeded expectations as a makeshift solution to a position that Manchester City could strengthen this summer.
