One year after a vast march in Saint-Étienne backing the Magic Fans and Green Angels, the threat of dissolution still looms over AS Saint-Étienne’s ultras.

According to Le Progres, thousands took to the streets on 29 March 2025 under a slogan asserting that the Cauldron would not be dissolved, a response to proceedings launched by the then Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau.

A year on, the minister has changed. Geoffroy-Guichard is widely regarded as home to one of the finest atmospheres in France and even Europe, despite the club not yet returning to the top flight.

Players, visiting supporters and regular observers are broadly unanimous that the Cauldron’s spectacle, even when a stand is closed as it was against Annecy and as it will be for Dunkerque on 11 April, adds an extra dimension to the football.

That reputation is driven above all by the creativity and fervour of the Magic Fans in the north kop and the Green Angels in the south stand.

They are the same groups that came under Retailleau’s scrutiny last year.
