Unai Emery hailed the achievement of his Aston Villa players to reach 50 points at this stage of the season.

Jack Hinshelwood’s late own goal gave Villa victory over Brighton, taking them up to the 50-point mark with 12 games still to go.

“Of course, we are with 50 points, and today, how we achieved those three points, really is fantastic,” Emery said after the victory.

“Tough match, difficult match. The last two matches at home in Premier League, we lost.

“Today was very important to try to compete, to try to recover our mood individually and collectively, energy, winning of course is helping us.

“And, of course, keep going. And today, one step forward during the season, really, we needed it.”

Matty Cash missed the victory through injury but Emery does not expect him to be out for long.

“He was injured with a small injury,” Emery said.

“I don’t know if he will be available for Saturday. Each day is important for how he is progressing.”
