According to an update by Spanish journalist Marcos Benito on El Chiringuito TV, Aston Villa are keen on signing Celta Vigo star Oscar Mingueza in the ongoing winter window as the Premier League club look to bolster their defensive line.

Oscar Mingueza came through Barcelona academy but failed to establish himself in the senior team. Hence, he moved to Celta Vigo in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer. The decision has worked well for him as it has abled to revive his career.

Mingueza has earned a reputation through consistent impressive performances. He has two goals and five assists in 18 outings this season so far. He is averaging 0.9 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).

The Spanish defender is versatile to play as a centre-back or as a full-back on either wing. He is an intelligent player who likes to press highly. He is great ball playing abilities and contribute significantly going higher on the pitch.

Oscar Mingueza can be a valuable addition

Aston Villa’s interest in Oscar Mingueza is understandable as Matty Cash is a bit unreliable. Though the latter has improved this season, Unai Emery still wants to a more formidable name at his disposal to get the best out of his team.

Mingueza could be a great addition to the unit considering his versatility and qualities. He can be extremely useful in the offensive part of the game and can improve the Villans immensely. He can serve at the highest level for many years to come.
