Morgan Rogers continues to capture attention across English football, and his name remains tied to constant speculation. Aston Villa invested £15 million, including add-ons, to bring him in from Middlesbrough in February 2024, and since then, his influence has grown steadily.
His current campaign has not matched his first full season at Villa Park, yet Aston Villa still see him as indispensable. Their belief in the attacking midfielder shows in fresh talks over a long-term extension, as reported by Football Insider. That decision sends a firm message to Chelsea and Tottenham, who remain interested but frustrated by the lack of progress.
Morgan Rogers’ story at Aston Villa shows fast adaptation and visible growth. Within months of joining, the 23-year-old had cemented his role as a mainstay under Unai Emery. The Englishman has not only contributed with numbers but with consistency.
Over 77 appearances so far, he has chipped in with 17 goals and 17 assists, and proved his ability to influence matches both as a scorer and as a creator. His pace, strength, and willingness to take on defenders have turned him into a dynamic forward capable of occupying multiple positions across the attacking third.
Such versatility explains why Chelsea and Tottenham have tracked Rogers for months. Chelsea, despite heavily reshaping their attacking line in the summer, still face uncertainty over loan arrival Facundo Buonanotte, who was left out of the UEFA Champions League squad.
Tottenham, meanwhile, explored the possibility of signing Rogers before they secured Xavi Simons, but the failure to properly replace Son Heung-min keeps them open to options. Reports suggest Spurs could soon revisit their interest, although their hopes may already be fading. We reported earlier that Aston Villa will not sell Morgan Rogers in the January transfer window. Current contract talks only strengthen that stance.

For Aston Villa, extending Rogers’ stay means more than fending off admirers. It represents a statement of intent and a recognition of what he offers in the longer run. His performances in the 2024/25 season, where he tallied eight Premier League goals and ten assists, were central to Villa’s push into Europe.
That form earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award and showed his individual development and value to the squad. Even though his output this season has dipped, Emery and the Villa hierarchy remain convinced that he is a talent worth building around.
By offering Rogers a contract until 2030, the club protect themselves from losing a key asset too early and show ambition to challenge consistently. Villa’s wider strategy has been clear for some time, shown in their interest in Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli. We reported earlier that Aston Villa and West Ham United want Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli. All these demonstrate their plan to assemble a group capable of competing at the top level. In that context, securing Rogers on a long-term deal forms part of a broader project.
Chelsea and Tottenham may keep watching from a distance, but for now, Rogers’ future remains at Villa Park. The negotiations highlight a bond between player and club. Despite current challenges, they show Aston Villa’s determination to keep one of their brightest attacking players as a symbol of ambition.
