Atalanta ‘to meet’ Cagliari over Gianluca Gaetano, Cagliari ‘to consider’ Kristjan Asllani loan

Atalanta are pursuing Gianluca Gaetano from Cagliari, a move that could prompt the Sardinian club to weigh Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani as cover.

New coach Maurizio Sarri has made Gaetano a leading target. According to Sky Sport Italia, club officials are due to meet Cagliari this evening to explore an agreement.

The report adds there is a gap between an offer of €12m and an €18m valuation, with a compromise around €15m possible.

Should Gaetano depart, Cagliari will need cover in midfield. They were said to be close to a €5m deal with Pisa for Switzerland international Michel Aebischer.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Asllani is another option, with the midfielder back at Inter after loans at first Torino and then Besiktas. The Sardinians could only pursue him on another loan with an option to buy.
