Athletic 1x1 v Elche: Guruzeta stars as penalty clinches 2-1 | OneFootball

Guruzeta struck twice at San Mamés as Athletic edged Elche 2-1, finishing a Yuri cross then converting a penalty won by Laporte. According to El Correo, he was the standout performer with an eight.

The first half brought chances and slips. Yuri suffered an early head knock and was below par, while Laporte picked out Guruzeta for a header. Sancet then blazed over after goalkeeper Dituro’s error.

After the break Yuri improved and his delivery created the opener for Guruzeta. Elche levelled from the spot following Lekue’s foul on Febas, André da Silva slipping on his first attempt and touching the ball twice, then scoring at the retake. Laporte then earned a second penalty and Guruzeta sent Dituro the wrong way for the winner.

Unai Simón was mostly a spectator, rated five. Lekue took a four and was replaced by Areso, Vivian a seven against Da Silva and Álvaro, Yuri a seven, and Laporte a six.

Galarreta impressed with a seven and completed only his second full match of the season. Unai Gómez took a six before debutant Eder García came on, Rego was a six and made way for Vesga.

Sancet was marked down to a four after a big miss and later made way for Robert Navarro. Captain Williams got a four, reaching 496 appearances to equal Piru Gainza in eighth place, with Areso a six, Vesga a five after a key stoppage-time clearance, Navarro a four, Izeta a five and Eder a five with a booking.
