Athletic bus pelted with objects on hostile arrival at Mestalla | OneFootball

Athletic’s players endured a hostile coach journey to Mestalla before their Copa quarter-final, as objects were hurled at the bus by a large group of Valencia supporters.

According to El Correo, the team bus had to pass through roughly 2,000 home fans who threw numerous objects, striking the windows with force. Footage filmed from inside captured repeated thuds and shouts as the vehicle was hit.

Images showed National Police on horseback attempting to keep the crowd back. A particularly heavy impact prompted alarm inside the coach, with members of the travelling party reacting in shock.

Beyond the missiles, Athletic players were subjected to the chant “puto vasco, el que no bote” near the ground and again several times inside the stadium.

The Valencia coach arrived at around 19.30. Some fans positioned further away initially mistook it for Athletic’s and repeated the same chant, then fell silent once they realised it was their team.
