Athletic Club star sits out training ahead of imminent move to Girona | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Athletic Club played no part in training on Tuesday morning.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Hugo Rincón as the player in question.

Rincón has for his part seen his name emerge as an altogether prominent one in the Spanish transfer chatter over the last week.

This comes with the 22-year-old’s future having been thrown up in the air, following the arrival of fellow right-back Jesús Areso at Athletic.

Fresh off a fine season on loan with Mirandés in 2024/25, a number of La Liga clubs, in turn, are understood to have expressed a keen interest in his signature.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then one such club now appear to be on the verge of closing a deal for Rincón.

As per a report from MD:

‘Hugo Rincón missed (Athletic Club) training. The right-back, without a place in the first team following the signing of Jesús Areso, is heading to Girona to play on loan for Míchel’s team.’
