Atletico Madrid has become the latest club to show interest in Lazio defender Mario Gila, who is also a serious target for AC Milan.
With a contract expiring in June 2027 and no renewal negotiations on the horizon, all signs point towards the Spaniard’s summer exit.
Gila has been heavily linked with a move to the Rossoneri, where he would be reunited with Igli Tare, the former Lazio sporting director who brought the 25-year-old to the Italian capital in 2022.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) confirmed Milan’s interest in Gila, revealing that the Barcelona native was one of the names mentioned in the meeting between the club’s head coach, Max Allegri, and CEO Giorgio Furlani. Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae is considered the alternative option.
The San Siro outfit has some company in the race, as AS (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) reveals that Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on Gila. The Colchoneros could launch an attempt to sign the Spaniard should either Clement Lenglet or Jose Gimenez leave the club in the summer.
In addition to Milan and Atletico, Gila had also landed on the shortlist of several other top clubs, including Inter Milan. But despite having a host of suitors vying for his signature, Gila’s sale is unlikely to generate a major profit for Lazio due to his expiring contract and Real Madrid’s 50% sell-on fee.
The Rossoneri are reportedly hoping to buy him for €15 million. In this case, the Biancocelesti would only receive €7.5 million.
