Atletico Madrid have reportedly made Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson a ‘top’ target in the summer transfer window.
With Reinildo Mandava’s departure imminent, the Spanish outfit are prioritising a new left-back ahead of next season.
Robertson is “appreciated internally as the ideal candidate”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer is “not an easy deal” as Liverpool still rate him highly, even though his minutes are likely to be reduced by the pending arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
Robertson is said to be above Theo Hernandez on Atletico‘s shortlist. The AC Milan left-back has been linked with a return to the club he came through as a youngster. Theo moved to rivals Real Madrid before ever making a senior appearance for the Colchoneros, in 2017.
Despite winning a second Premier League winner’s medal this season, Robertson endured one of his more challenging campaigns at Liverpool. He struggled to recapture the form that has made him such a fan favourite at Anfield, registering just one assist in 33 appearances.
Were the Scotland international to make the move, he would be the second Liverpool star to head to Spain’s capital after Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this week.
Atletico are no strangers to signing talent from England’s top flight, having purchased Conor Gallagher from Chelsea and Julian Alvarez from Manchester City just last summer.
Three other Premier League left-backs are on Atletico’s radar, according to Fichajes. It’s claimed they are looking at Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, Lucas Digne of Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell.
