Atletico Madrid starlet may exit on permanent deal before end of window | OneFootball

Atletico Madrid midfielder Arthur Vermeeren arrived at the Metropolitano as one of Europe’s great promises in January, completing an €18m move from Royal Antwerp. Despite impressing in patches during the few minutes he was given, just seven months later, he is set to leave the club.

Vermeeren, 19, was courted by multiple Premier League clubs and Barcelona before Atletico snapped him up in the winter transfer window, but saw just 160 minutes in five appearances for Atletico, and just two starts.

Despite having seen him for such little time, he is set to leave the club. Matteo Moretto has explained to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, that Vermeeren and Diego Simeone were not in tune with each other, and the Argentine manager clearly does not feel he will be in the future.

RB Leipzig are the side that Vermeeren has chosen to join from Atletico, one of his previous suitors. The two clubs are currently in negotiations, but it could well be a permanent deal too. One of the options on the table is that the Belgian international goes on loan with an obligation to buy. It remains to be seen if Atletico will make their money back.
