Julian Alvarez’s transfer to Barcelona remains highly complicated, especially after Atletico Madrid and their president’s public statements that the player will not leave.
Further, Los Rojiblancos have remained very clear that they will not sell to Barcelona even if the player presses for a departure.
Barcelona continue to retain hope and will push for Alvarez now that the FIFA World Cup is complete. They do, however, have a clear deadline in mind and will not wait any longer than this month.
In a recent update, AS confirms that Atletico Madrid remain as firm as they were before the World Cup on Alvarez’s future and that they have not softened one bit.

The Colchoneros maintain firmly that they will not negotiate with Barcelona under any condition and that the player will remain at their club next season. They are not open to sanctioning a departure despite having promised the player the same.
Atletico Madrid feel like they have the upper hand in the negotiations and that they are not obligated to sell. Matters may change if an offer arrives from overseas, but even that looks unlikely at this point.
As matters stand, they expect Alvarez to return to training by the 10th of August when all Spaniards and Argentines will return to their respective clubs.
Alvarez has already come out once to publicly acknowledge his desire to leave Diego Simeone’s side, but the Madrid-based team have not paid any heed to his words.

Having broken their promise with the player, Atletico Madrid’s ties with Alvarez are far from pleasant and the player feels hard done by his situation.
At this point, only a public statement and reiteration of intent can open the doors for the striker, and Barcelona are expecting the player to make an effort from his end to push the transfer.
With the World Cup now complete and a few weeks left before he joins training, it is the right time for the player to step forward and take matters into his own hands. Barcelona will only take a step forward if they receive such a gesture from the player’s side.
