Atlético condemned Real Madrid to a 75-year record in derby | OneFootball

Real Madrid were condemned to the wrong side of a 75-year benchmark in their defeat to city rivals Atlético.

Xabi Alonso’s troops of course marked their return to action on Saturday evening.

After making the short trip across Spain’s capital for a derby showdown with Diego Simeone’s Atlético, Los Blancos, during the fist-half, found themselves in possession of a 2-1 lead.

From here, however, nothing short of a historic collapse was forthcoming.

After allowing Atléti to level things up just shy of the interval, Real Madrid shipped three further goals during the 2nd-half, en route to a 5-2 defeat.

And as alluded to above, in the process, the La Liga table-toppers found themselves making history for all the wrong reasons.

As per a report from statistician Pedro Martin:

‘Real Madrid suffered its worst defeat in 75 years against Atlético in Xabi Alonso’s debut as coach in the derbies.’
