In recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. A number of reports have suggested that a sale would be considered this summer, and on the back of this, Manchester United have been heavily linked with making a big move for his services, although all of this is immaterial now.

Tchouameni’s situation has looked precarious ever since he came to blows with Federico Valverde during a training session in May. Real Madrid gave their strong backing to the now-captain, which had led to doubts about whether the France international could continue – but now, he certainly will be staying.

As per Diario AS, Tchouameni is close to agreeing a new five-year contract with Real Madrid. Talks between his representatives and the club have intensified in the last 24 hours, and barring a major surprise, he will sign his new deal later in the summer when he returns to the club after the 2026 World Cup is over.

Real Madrid never contemplated selling Tchouameni

According to the report, there was never any moment when Real Madrid thought about selling Tchouameni. He’s always been seen as a key player for the upcoming 2026-27 season, which made sense given that he has been one of the club’s star performers over the last 12 months.

The decision to keep Tchouameni makes even more sense given that Real Madrid are now unlikely to sign a new midfielder this summer, having been priced out of a move for Enzo Fernandez, who was Jose Mourinho’s leading target. The Portuguese must now decide how he wants his line-up to look, although it’s very unlikely that Tchouameni will be one of the 11 names that feature regularly.

All being well, Tchouameni will secure his Real Madrid future in the days/weeks to come, but any speculation regarding a summer exit can now be put to bed.
