Auston Trusty named in SPFL Team of the Week after flawless Celtic display | OneFootball

Celtic defender Auston Trusty has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week after his brilliant display in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup Semi Final with Rangers. The USA Internationalist combined well with Liam Scales as the Celtic rearguard battled to help secure a 3-1 win after extra time to set up next month’s final with St Mirren.

The ex-Sheffield United defender had struggled for minutes under Brendan Rodgers this season, with Dane Murray being the preferred third defender. Trusty was recalled by Martin O’Neill and that decision has been vindicated with two impressive displays against Falkirk and Rangers.

The central defender was named as Man of the Match after the game with Trusty’s composed display catching the eye. His fine display only antagonised Rangers, who dismissed their own shortcomings and pinned the blame for the result on Nick Walsh. The referee and his VAR team came to a number of conclusions, the majority benefited the Ibrox club but the furore after the game wouldn’t suggest that.
