Former Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna believes Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland will remain where they currently ply their trade.
The futures of Europe’s two most high-profile forwards continue to generate rumours, particularly with long-standing links between Real Madrid and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland refusing to fully disappear.
Over recent months, reports and pundits have discussed the possibility of Madrid attempting to unite Mbappe with Haaland as part of a new Galáctico era, while suggestions of potential exits from either club tend to resurface during international breaks or transfer windows.
Haaland himself has recently dominated international headlines having played a significant role in Norway’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since the 1990s, further adding to the constant media attention surrounding his next steps.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s broader squad planning has been a frequent topic in ongoing coverage, with the club looking to reinforce in defence and midfield while keeping their long-term talisman settled.
Now, speaking during a new conversation with Oddspedia, former Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has insisted that there is no chance of Kylian Mbappe leaving Real Madrid and Erling Haaland subsequently making the jump to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“That won’t happen,” Sagna said of the idea of Mbappe leaving the Spanish giants. He continued, “He’s very happy at Madrid and has his full attention on them.
“He’s devoted to winning the biggest trophies with them and leaving a mark there. It was his dream to play for them so he won’t want to move away at all.”
Continuing on the subject of Erling Haaland, Sagna said, “He seems to be very happy at Manchester City and likes living in England.
“Real Madrid is obviously a very appealing prospect, but he’s playing in the best league in the world and has the full respect of Man City and Pep Guardiola. He won’t be leaving them anytime soon.”
Bacary Sagna’s viewpoint aligns with the growing sentiment that City have successfully built an environment in which Erling Haaland feels both valued and challenged, particularly as he continues breaking scoring records and forming partnerships with new stars in the squad.
Numerous reports have pointed towards Haaland’s continued happiness within Pep Guardiola’s squad, whether during domestic action or on international duty, and those themes reinforce Bacary Sagna’s belief that a Santiago Bernabéu move is not on the horizon.
As for Real Madrid, their focus remains on consolidating attack around Mbappe and co, making a pursuit of Haaland – at least in the short term – increasingly unlikely. Still, transfer cycles are unpredictable, and should Madrid eventually reignite interest, City’s stance and Haaland’s own ambitions will dictate the narrative.
