FC Bayern will be without one of their mainstays for the Bundesliga restart: Joshua Kimmich will not be available for the opening game after the winter break against VfL Wolfsburg
The 30-year-old has not yet resumed team training and is still suffering from ankle problems. As things stand at the moment, Kimmich is working exclusively on an individual basis, meaning he will not be available for the start of the season next Sunday, according to Sky. Coach Vincent Kompany will therefore have to make changes to his plans in central midfield
It had already become apparent in the first sessions after the winter break that Kimmich is not yet ready for full training. While the majority of the squad trained with the team again, the DFB captain only completed an individual session. A quick return to team training is also not foreseeable at the moment, as Bayern do not want to take any risks
In addition to Kimmich, other players are also missing for the restart. Nicolas Jackson is still on duty with Senegal at the Africa Cup, while Manuel Neuer is also still working individually following his thigh strain. On the other hand, the return of Jamal Musiala was positive, as he has already completed parts of team training and is working towards an imminent comeback
The absence of Kimmich represents a further challenge for Kompany. The coach would have liked to be able to call on his midfielder for the opener against Wolfsburg in particular. Now other players will have to take on responsibility if Munich are to make a successful start to the new Bundesliga season
It remains to be seen how long Kimmich will be missing, but one thing is clear: the Bayern star will definitely not be on the pitch for the start of the season at the Allianz Arena.
