The Algerian national team might be deprived of one of its key players for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

According to Algerian daily El Khabar, Samir Chergui's participation in the continental tournament remains up in the air. The Paris FC defender will undergo a series of thorough medical tests to assess his physical condition and determine whether he can take part in the competition.

The 26-year-old is suffering from a hamstring injury picked up during his club's match against Lille on November 23.

Although he joined the Fennecs' training camp at the Sidi Moussa technical centre, Chergui missed the latest training session, increasing doubts about his availability just days before the Algerian squad departs for Rabat.

The results of his medical tests, expected in the coming hours, should reveal whether he will be able to gradually return or will be forced to withdraw from AFCON 2025 altogether.
