Bap predicts Wallace Yan progress under Leonardo Jardim | OneFootball

Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, has praised forward Wallace Yan, who has also drawn compliments from head coach Leonardo Jardim.

"I think this year Wallace Yan will shine, he can play anywhere across the front, he is quick, he has stamina. If you bring in the players the fans want for immediacy, you block a development pathway for academy players," Bap said, speaking to Mengocast.

"Every youngster matures at a different age. Flamengo do not have the same need to sell to make money. Perhaps we will give the youngsters more time to break through here," he added.

Flamengo were close to negotiating Wallace Yan’s exit in early 2026. Red Bull Bragantino first proposed a fixed fee, then sought to split it, half guaranteed and half in targets. The club then pulled back and ended talks.

On 14 January, after defeat to Bangu, Wallace Yan bid farewell and was emotional. Internally, the board felt he had acted too soon because no agreement had been signed.

He made his senior bow in 2024, featuring in 41 matches with seven goals and five assists. Across two successful seasons, he collected the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, Libertadores, Campeonato Carioca and Supercopa do Brasil.
