Alexander Barboza underwent medical tests on Thursday and is close to joining Palmeiras, with only bureaucratic details still to finalise.
O Globo reports that Botafogo have asked the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice for authorisation to complete the deal with Palmeiras.
Talks with the defender were settled in recent days, covering salary, performance bonuses and a signing-on fee, with commission for his representatives already agreed.
The clubs have been aligned for almost two weeks. Palmeiras will pay $4 million, about R$ 20 million at the current rate, in instalments, with a larger first tranche on signing.
Barboza is set to sign until December 2029. His Botafogo contract runs to December and will not be renewed after talks stalled over non-football requests, including the continuity of directors.
He said he had hoped to renew, but needed more than salary, acknowledged the situation is not easy, and would speak again if his exit is confirmed.
He will only play for Palmeiras after the World Cup, when the transfer window opens on 20 July. Until then, Botafogo have seven games across the Sudamericana, Copa do Brasil and Brasileiro.
Knockout competitions have no registration limits, but the league allows a maximum of 12 appearances before a transfer. Barboza has 10, so can feature twice more.
