Barcelona survived a late Bayern surge to reach a sixth straight Champions League final, with Alexia Putellas scoring twice in a 4-2 win in front of a sold-out Camp Nou.
Salma Paralluelo struck first, and although Bayern Munich’s Linda Dallmann hit back on the counter, Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas capitalised on chaos in the Bayern box to make it 2-1 in the first half.
Ewa Pajor headed home Barcelona’s third before Putellas got her second from a free-kick won by 18-year-old Clara Serrajordi. Bayern pulled one back through Pernille Harder in the 71st minute, and their top scorer gave her team late hope when she fired in again in stoppage time. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR, and Barcelona sealed a 5-3 aggregate win to take them to the UWCL final in Oslo.
Barcelona took control early, dominating possession in trademark fashion, and opened the scoring in the 12th minute. With a lack of pressure from Bayern’s defence, Caroline Graham Hansen drove down the right-hand side and crossed the ball to Salma Paralluelo, who struck it in the back of the net.
Bayern Munich responded instantly. Just four minutes later, Stine Ballisager stole the ball from Graham Hansen, and sent the ball through to Pernille Harder, who slipped the ball across for Linda Dallmann to tap past Catalina Coll.
Bayern boss José Barcala watched from an enclosed box in the stands, having received a red card in the previous leg, as Barcelona continued to push forward.
Alexia Putellas soon restored Barcelona’s lead, acting quickest as Bayern scrambled in the box. It was the Ballon d’Or winner’s sixth Champions League goal in ten appearances this season, and fans roared as she kissed her badge in celebration.
Ewa Pajor made it 3-1 in the 54th minute, meeting Salma Paralluelo’s pinpoint cross with a clinical header. The Polish international has averaged a goal a game in the competition this season.
Minutes later, Clara Serrajordi won a free-kick and Alexia Putellas got her second.
Barcelona kept pressing, but Bayern Munich were not finished.
Harder brought Bayern Munich back into the tie, burying the ball in the left-hand corner after Aitana Bonmatí was uncharacteristically dispossessed in the 71st minute after making her comeback after six months out.
The goal gave Bayern fresh energy, and they began to find space in the final third. In the 78th minute, Klara Bühl struck from distance, forcing Coll to push the ball just beyond the post.
Pernille Harder thought she’d put her team back in it as she fired the ball emphatically into the roof of the net in the 91st minute, but the goal was ruled out by VAR, and their hopes of reaching the final deflated.
Barcelona will face Lyon in the Champions League final in Oslo on the 23rd May.
