This ongoing season for FC Barcelona has been one of revivals and new-found strength within the team. With the appointment of Hansi Flick came a new sense of courage and confidence that has been apparent all season long so far. Moreover, several Barcelona players have even managed to unlock their most efficient versions in a long time.
Such is the impact that Hansi Flick has had on his new players, and he has even managed to reignite the fire within a certain player who has already reached his peak under the German coach before. That man, now aged 36, is none other than Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
Following his rather rough season under Xavi Hernandez in the previous campaign, there were some serious doubts over both his salary and his stay at the club. However, under Hansi Flick so far, Robert Lewandowski has managed to reawaken his hunger it seems and the Barcelona ace is proving all of the doubters wrong.
In fact, as per the latest information provided by SPORT, the club is no longer in a hurry to find a replacement for the former Bayern Munich striker. While they were reportedly looking at some high-profile names before, the Catalan giants no longer believe that to be an urgent priority.
Instead, the club is taking it for granted that the 36-year-old goalscoring specialist will end up meeting the requirements to extend his stay as they are hopeful of his renewal. Moreover, even though his salary increased for this ongoing season, it will decrease once again for the upcoming campaign and the player may even be willing to decrease it further if the club adds an additional year to his contract.
Physically and competitively, there is simply no denying the fact that the Polish ace is in top shape. He is hungrier than ever to find his name on the scoresheet, having managed to score a brace yet again in his previous outing against Red Star Belgrade, the Pole has now even taken his total UEFA Champions League tally to 99 goals.
As a result of this incredible season that he is having under Flick, Barcelona have waved off the need to pursue players like Erling Haaland or Viktor Gyokeres immediately, and have instead turned their focus on acquiring a low-cost signing who would merely help Lewandowski manage his minutes in the upcoming season if possible.
For Hansi Flick, Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona is much clearer than it was for Xavi Hernandez. Whereas the Spaniard had his doubts about the Pole’s ability to consistently deliver at the top level, the German coach has now helped him give out a clear message that he is here to stay and deliver as many goals as possible.
