Marc-Andre ter Stegen is nearing a return to full fitness, but his prospects at Barcelona remain uncertain.
Even when he returns to full fitness, the German has no scope for a starting role as Barcelona do not consider him a part of the first-team plans.
This means the goalkeeper has no choice but to find a new club, in his bid to find regular game-time during the second half of the season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, ter Stegen remains steadfast in his position. He has no intention of waiving a single euro or relinquishing the contract he signed through 2028.
The German captain believes he has supported the club at crucial moments in the past, specifically by deferring parts of his salary to facilitate the registration of teammates.
A significant portion of the money due over the next three years corresponds to these deferred amounts. Therefore, he is unwilling to forgive this debt or terminate a contract that the club itself extended in 2023.

The situation on the pitch is equally complicated. Hansi Flick has been blunt, stating, “We are not going to change Joan, he is doing very well.” With Joan García established as the undisputed number one, Ter Stegen is in a holding pattern.
Tuesday’s match is viewed as a litmus test for his status. If Wojciech Szczęsny plays, it would confirm Ter Stegen has fallen to third choice. If the German starts, he accepts the role of a Cup goalkeeper.
Despite the friction, a departure is difficult. Barcelona cannot afford to terminate his contract due to Financial Fair Play implications, and Ter Stegen is unwilling to leave for a minor club.
Unless a top team guarantees him minutes, he prefers to stay and fight, ensuring every cent of his contract is honoured.
