The future of Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen has this week been thrown into doubt.
This comes amid claims on the part of Diario AS that the German no longer boasts the full backing of those behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
Goalkeeper Ter Stegen has of course endured something of a difficult campaign in 2024/25.
First, back in September, the 33-year-old suffered a serious knee injury, condemning him to a long-term spell on the sidelines.
Then, upon Ter Stegen recovering fitness just in time for the most crucial stretch of the season, Hansi Flick continued to rely on the talents of Wojciech Szczęsny.
And such woes, coupled with the previous questionable form produced by the experienced shot-stopper, could yet give rise to a surprise sale in the summer.
That’s according to AS, who report that:
‘At 33, Ter Stegen ‘s performance, following three operations on his right knee and another on his back, had already been declining in recent years before his injury in Villarreal. The German is a real unknown for next season.’
Should the German be moved on, Barcelona would in turn seek out a replacement on the market.
