Francisco Trincao is set to be one of the hottest names in the summer transfer market, which will come as music to the ears of his former club, FC Barcelona.
The 25-year-old has racked up nine goals and 15 assists from 43 games in all competitions for Sporting CP this season while his performances for the Portuguese national team of late have been top-notch as well.
As such, it is expected that Sporting will struggle to retain Trincao beyond this season due to the growing interest from major clubs, with Barcelona keeping a close eye on the situation.
Now, according to SPORT, Jorge Mendes, Trincao’s agent, recently met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director Deco to discuss the player’s situation and gauge the club’s plans regarding his future.
Barcelona initially loaned Trincao to Sporting, receiving €3 million for the loan and an additional €7 million for 50% of the player’s rights.

The Catalans have the option to buy him back until 2026 for €20-25 million, but they have informed Mendes they will not trigger that option this summer.
Instead, the Blaugrana are counting on a lucrative sale, which would allow them to pocket 50% of the transfer fee.
Given his performances, Trincao is attracting widespread interest, mainly from the Premier League.
Manchester United have made the decision to go after him. After all, Ruben Amorim previously coached the winger at Sporting Braga and then brought him back to Sporting CP.
The Manchester United manager has unwavering faith in Trincao’s abilities and is keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils are not the only club in the race.
Newcastle United and Arsenal have expressed interest, while Manchester City could soon join the competition. Their new sporting director, Hugo Viana, was responsible for signing Trincao for Sporting CP years ago and is known to be a big admirer of the player.
Trincao could thus deliver a significant profit to the Blaugrana – an outcome that could be pivotal for the club’s summer business amid fresh Fair Play concerns.
