Barcelona could be set for an unexpected financial boost as one of their former players, namely, Francisco Trincao attracts serious interest from Villarreal.
According to Fichajes, the Portuguese winger, currently playing for Sporting Lisbon, has emerged as a key target for the La Liga side as they look to reinforce their attack.
At 25, Trincao is in the best form of his career, having contributed nine goals and 15 assists this season. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with clubs beyond Villarreal also monitoring his situation.
Reports suggest that Manchester United and Manchester City are among those considering a move, with Sporting Lisbon now bracing for potential offers in the upcoming transfer window.
This situation directly benefits Barcelona, who inserted a 50% sell-on clause when they sold Trincao to Sporting.
Additionally, the Catalan club holds a buyback option valued between €20-25 million, giving them significant leverage over any potential transfer.

If Sporting decide to cash in on Trincao, Barcelona will receive a substantial share of the transfer fee, which could be crucial given their ongoing financial struggles.
While Sporting would prefer to keep Trincao, they also recognise the financial reality—if a Premier League club enters the race, his value could skyrocket beyond initial expectations.
That scenario would be the most beneficial for Barcelona, as they would stand to gain a higher cut from any sale. However, Villarreal’s interest presents an alternative option, one that could see Trincao return to La Liga.
If he were to move to Villarreal, it would offer him the opportunity to prove his development since leaving Barcelona, but the fee might not reach the same heights as a Premier League bid.
Regardless of where he ends up, one thing is certain—Barcelona will profit. Whether through a direct buyback or their sell-on clause, Trincao’s next move could provide a much-needed financial boost for the Blaugrana.
