Barcelona defender considering his recovery options as he wants to avoid surgery for a hand injury | OneFootball

As they are not competing in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, the 2024-25 season is already over for FC Barcelona. As a result, their players are currently away from the club, either enjoying their vacations or playing with their respective national teams.

Two of these players were a part of the Spanish squad for the UEFA U-23 European Championship, i.e., Pablo Torre and Gerard Martin.

However, things did not pan out very positively for them as their team opened this campaign with a 3-2 win over Slovakia. Both of these players started that game, but had to be subbed out because of physical problems.

Gerard Martin suffers a hand injury

In the midfielder’s case, it was only a case of fatigue that made it difficult for him to continue playing in that game. However, the fullback had suffered a physical issue quite early in the game and was subbed out at half-time.

Detailed tests later carried out on him showed that he was suffering from a dislocation of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand. This meant a premature end to the international competition for him, as he returned to Barcelona. At that time, surgery seemed to be the best-suited recovery method for the defender.

The defender wants to avoid surgery

However, Mundo Deportivo now reports that the player is still considering other recovery options, including conservative methods, to avoid going under the knife. The development of his issue will ultimately determine whether he will still have to undergo surgery or he can recover with a conservative treatment plan.

Meanwhile, despite this injury, Barcelona are confident that Gerard Martin will be ready to join his teammates as they meet for the first preseason training session scheduled by Hansi Flick for July 13th. Hopefully, this will be the case and the defender will be able to showcase his talents once again in this preseason.
