A fresh report from SPORT has revealed that Nathan Ake is genuinely interested in a move to Barcelona, with the Dutch defender viewing the Blaugrana as an attractive destination at an important stage of his career.

However, while the player is keen, the operation remains complicated due to Manchester City’s stance on the structure of any potential deal.

Ake has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time and continues to be one of the defenders the club value most as they look to strengthen the back line.

The motivation from the player’s side is clear.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, he wants regular minutes to secure his place with the Netherlands national team, something he has struggled to achieve consistently this season under Pep Guardiola.

This is where Barcelona believe they can offer something decisive. The Catalan club can provide Ake with continuity in the starting XI, a role that would allow him to regain rhythm and importance.

From a sporting perspective, the fit makes sense. However, the main obstacle lies in Manchester City’s conditions.

There is a problem

According to the outlet, City are not open to a straight loan.

In fact, their preference is either a permanent transfer or an exchange deal involving another player, options that Barcelona are not considering at this stage.

Barça’s plan is to explore a loan move with an option to buy, and ideally for a six-month period to reinforce the squad during a demanding second half of the season.

Despite these difficulties, Ake remains the defensive profile that best matches Barcelona’s needs.

He is left-footed, comfortable as a centre-back or full-back, strong in build-up play, and brings extensive international and Champions League experience.

Importantly, the defender himself is open to the move, provided the two clubs can reach a favourable agreement.
