A poll held by Mundo Deportivo for Barcelona’s supporters this week revealed an altogether noteworthy collective stance when it comes to the future of midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
This comes amid the revelation that, should the majority have their way, the Dutchman will soon be sent on his way by the Barca brass.
De Jong, for his part, has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several months now.
As much comes as the 27-year-old’s ongoing struggles for game-time give rise to mounting speculation that De Jong could well be sold next summer.
The former Ajax man is due to see his contract terms expire in the summer of 2026, with Deco and the Camp Nou board therefore having a major decision to make when it comes to a potential renewal.
Taking into account all aspects of the situation, a group of over 300 club members were this week in turn surveyed on whether or not they would offer a new deal to De Jong.
And the response proved a telling one.
As per MD:
‘Almost two thirds of those surveyed (64.6%) are clear that they would not extend the Dutchman’s contract and only 20% would opt for the midfielder to continue, while 15.3% preferred not to respond on this situation.’
