Barcelona forward expected to recover and be available for Girona clash | OneFootball

Earlier today, FC Barcelona announced that key forward Marcus Rashford will miss tomorrow’s Copa del Rey clash against Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old forward was ruled out of the semi-final first leg at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano due to knee discomfort after he picked up a knock in the game against RCD Mallorca.

While the issue was not serious, Barça opted not to take any risks with the England international as a precautionary measure.

Rashford to return against Girona

Now, according to SPORT, sources close to Rashford state that he will definitely be available for the La Liga clash against Girona.

Rashford did not train on the Tito Vilanova pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva this morning in the final session before the trip to Madrid.

The British forward, who did report to the training facilities, worked separately inside the gym, having arrived at around 10:20 a.m., approximately 50 minutes later than the available players.

Barcelona confirmed his absence for the trip to Madrid, but the decision is more a precaution than the result of a worrying injury.

Rashford is still feeling the effects of a knock sustained in last weekend’s match against Mallorca and, although it is only discomfort, the coaching staff have preferred not to take any risks.

In fact, Barcelona are fully confident that the forward will be available next Monday for the league fixture against Girona. The plan is for him to train normally with the group on Friday during the recovery session.

With there still being uncertainty surrounding Raphinha’s condition, Rashford could start in the Catalan derby against Girona come Monday.
