Vinicius Jr. being suspended for just two games comes as a massive relief for Real Madrid, who in fact are lucky the player got away with a mild sanction.
After being expelled against Valencia for intentionally hitting the hosts’ goalkeeper, the player had to be held back by his teammates and shown his way to the sidelines and a sanction of 4 to 12 games was expected for his behavior.
While the competition committee’s decision serves Los Blancos well, it is clear that it has not gone down well with many other teams in La Liga, especially Barcelona.
As relayed by SPORT in a recent update, Barcelona feel hard done by the decision that favours Real Madrid’s best interests and claim that the Merengues are not judged by the same criteria other clubs are.

The primary reason for their concern is that they remember Robert Lewandowski’s case from two seasons ago where the Polish striker was suspended for three games for gesturing by pointing to his nose.
They feel that for Vinicius to see only two games out for a far more provocative, violent, and physical action, is a bizarre decision.
It was, however, not because of any appeal by the club but the decision of the referee Cesar Soto Grado to omit details of Vinicius’ aggression while interacting with the video arbitration.
The situation has led to concerns of rules being applied differently for different teams and will once again re-ignite the issue of Los Blancos being favored by referees, a matter to which there is little truth.
From Real Madrid’s perspective, the ban is fair considering that the player was initially provoked by the goalkeeper and they will accept the decision with both arms stretched.
