Barcelona goalkeeper’s proposed move to Ajax still on; club to cover 90% of his salary | OneFootball

Late last night, bombshell reports suggested that Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s proposed move to Ajax has stalled due to various complications.

There were certain disagreements between Ajax and Barcelona that is threatening to disrupt the move, with the two parties particularly not on board with the salary sharing model.

However, a recent report from Diario AS has revealed that ter Stegen could still move to Ajax this summer.

The report suggests that only some bureaucratic tax issues now separate ter Stegen from completing his switch to Ajax, with the Dutch club hopeful of resolving the situation in the coming days.

The sticking point remains financial, as Ajax can only cover a very small percentage of the goalkeeper’s total salary.

That leaves Barcelona to shoulder the vast majority of his wages, believed to be in the region of 90%, in order to get the deal over the line.

Despite the complications, the move is still very much alive, and both parties remain confident of finding a resolution soon.

Ter Stegen could still travel to England

In the meantime, ter Stegen’s immediate future remains slightly up in the air, with Hansi Flick having included the goalkeeper in the squad set to travel to England for a training camp.

Everything, however, hinges on a meeting between ter Stegen and Flick at the Ciutat Esportiva before departure.

The German coach will not stand in the way should the goalkeeper prefer to stay in Barcelona to finalise his move, but if it is decided he will be part of the squad, Flick will welcome him with open arms, as he did by handing him minutes in the friendly against Europa on Friday.

Notably, the travelling squad will also feature the return of Raphinha, who is back from holiday after a quiet World Cup hampered by a hamstring injury.

Other exits on the agenda

Ter Stegen’s departure is unlikely to be the only one, with Barcelona keen to trim their squad further.

Marc Casado remains one of the players who could move on, with the club’s stance unchanged despite Frenkie de Jong’s long-term injury.

The Dutchman has confirmed a tear in the lateral collateral ligament of his right knee and faces a lengthy recovery, but even that has not altered Barcelona’s roadmap regarding Casado’s future.
