FC Barcelona has had a solid summer transfer window, securing key players to bolster the squad. The club has made exciting additions, including Joan Garcia, Roony Bardghji, and Marcus Rashford, all of whom impressed in the team’s first pre-season match against Vissel Kobe.

With an abundance of young, promising talent, Barcelona appears well-positioned for the future. However, one area still needing attention is the striker position. Robert Lewandowski, despite his consistent form, is now 36 years old and entering the final year of his contract with Barcelona.

Now, according to Caught Offside, Barcelona have emerged as serious contenders to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. The 24-year-old Senegalese forward is likely to be available this summer, with Chelsea’s recent acquisitions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro pushing Jackson further down the pecking order.

Barcelona have reportedly identified Jackson as a potential backup for the aging Lewandowski. Deco, the club’s sporting director, is expected to be planning talks with Chelsea for a loan deal with an option to buy.

The €50m-rated Blues striker has the experience of previously playing in La Liga with Villarreal, where he had a very good season. It was on the back of that performance that Chelsea paid €30 million to take him to Stamford Bridge.

Other Clubs in the Race

While Barcelona are eyeing Jackson, they are not alone in the race. Serie A clubs such as Juventus and Napoli have shown interest in the Senegalese forward.

However, both clubs are struggling to meet Chelsea’s €50 million asking price. Additionally, AC Milan has submitted an offer for Jackson, but the player rejected the move, preferring to continue his career in the Premier League.

This decision keeps the door open for English clubs. Newcastle United could also join the bidding if Alexander Isak leaves this summer. As a result, the competition for Jackson’s signature continues to intensify, with several clubs still in the mix.

Does Barcelona Need Jackson?

While signing a new striker may be a priority in the near future, Barcelona does not face an urgent need for reinforcements this summer. Lewandowski is still performing at a high level, and Ferran Torres has proven himself capable of filling in as a backup striker.

Moreover, Jackson has yet to establish himself as a consistent goalscorer. His finishing remains a concern, and he doesn’t necessarily fit the profile needed to replace Lewandowski as the focal point of the attack.

Barcelona may be better off placing their trust in Torres for the time being, while waiting for further assessment by Hansi Flick and his coaching staff. The situation will likely become clearer as the summer transfer window progresses.
