Ferran Torres’ uncertain future appears to be driven as much by FC Barcelona’s lack of action as by Paris Saint-Germain’s growing interest.
While PSG continue working on a deal for the Spanish international, it seems as if the situation began with the Blaugrana’s sporting planning rather than the French club’s approach.
According to journalist David Bernabeu of SPORT, Barcelona never made a concrete move to offer Ferran a new contract.
“Barcelona never took any steps to tell Ferran they wanted to renew him,” the journalist revealed.
The lack of initiative surprised the forward after two seasons in which he established himself as one of Hansi Flick’s most reliable attacking players.
“He has averaged twenty goals over the last two seasons and realises that he has made the most of the opportunities Hansi Flick has given him to break into the team,” Bernabeu added.

Ferran believed his performances had earned greater recognition from Barcelona. After becoming an important player both on the pitch and in the dressing room, he expected the club to demonstrate their confidence in him with a contract extension.
That gesture never arrived.
Another factor influencing the situation was Barcelona’s long-term planning for the striker position.
According to the journalist, Ferran believed he could become the club’s first-choice centre-forward following Robert Lewandowski’s departure.
Barcelona, however, viewed things differently. The Catalans always considered Ferran a valuable attacking option capable of playing across the frontline, but never their primary long-term No. 9.
Instead, the sporting department planned from the outset to recruit a high-profile striker from the transfer market.

Publicly, Barcelona continue insisting they have no knowledge of PSG’s interest in Ferran. Behind the scenes, however, negotiations are believed to be progressing.
The journalist suggests discussions between the player and the reigning European champions are already well advanced, with the remaining obstacle being an agreement between the two clubs.
At this stage, Ferran’s move to the French champions is considered an increasingly realistic possibility.
“As things stand, it seems most likely that Ferran Torres will end up moving to Paris Saint-Germain. Now Barça and PSG will have to reach an agreement,” Bernabeu concluded.
