A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has returned to base in Catalunya’s capital for a round of medical checks.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong for his part sparked widespread concern in Barcelona this week.

As much came after word was forthcoming that the former Ajax man’s premature departure from the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifier against Poland came owing to a fitness complaint.

Speaking to the media post-match, Ronald Koeman confirmed:

“Frenkie warned us that he felt tightness in his glutes, so we didn’t take any risks.”

De Jong, in turn, has since been released from international duty, to make his way back to Spain for treatment.

And as alluded to above, on Saturday morning, the 28-year-old was spotted making his way into the Ciutat Esportiva.

This comes ahead of a round of scans and checks, which will determine the extent of his injury and the course of treatment moving forward.
