Barcelona icon shows support for Laporta ahead of elections – ‘Stand behind the man who represents the history and values’ | OneFootball

This Sunday, March 15, the presidential elections for FC Barcelona will take place, with Joan Laporta going head-to-head against Victor Font.

While Laporta is considered the favourite, Font has gathered some steam heading into the voting tomorrow, especially with club legend Xavi Hernandez lending him support.

Samuel Eto’o stands with Laporta

Now, though, another club legend has made his position clear during the day of reflection.

Former Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o shared a message on his Instagram account encouraging Barcelona members to vote for Joan Laporta.

In a statement written in French and English, Eto’o emphasised the importance of the elections “for everyone who loves FC Barcelona” and praised the work done by Laporta in, urging club members to place their trust in him once again at the ballot box.

The message from Eto’o read as follows: “My President for life, My brother, My friend. Tomorrow is an important day for all those who love FC Barcelona.

“I am a living witness to the incredible history you helped write at this legendary club. Your passion, your work, and your love for these colors have inspired an entire generation.”

It is worth remembering that Eto’o was one of the major signings during Joan Laporta’s first spell as Barcelona president. The Cameroonian legend went on to become one of the most iconic strikers in the club’s modern history.

Eto’o had already publicly shown his support for Laporta during the 2021 presidential campaign, when he shared a video encouraging Barcelona members to vote for him in that election as well.
